How
To Install and Care For Our Fabrics
|
In
addition to general steps for the installation of Melded Fabrics,
we provide specific application directions for a variety of application
surfaces. We suggest that you thoroughly read the General Installation
Steps and Special Application Notes, then follow the instructions
for your surface type as indicated below:
1.
General Installation Steps
Upon
Receipt of the Fabric
- Examine fabric to make certain that
the color, texture and quantity matches your order.
- Check the batch numbers on the roll
labels. Because there may be possible variations between batches,
do not attempt to butt- join different batch numbers (except
for joins at 90¢X).
- Check for faults. Minor faults are identified
with a plastic tag at the edge of the fabric and a standard
allowance is given for these faults.
Determine
Substrate
Refer to the inside of this brochure and locate the instructions
for the type of surface that the fabric will be placed upon.
Select
Adhesive
Using the guidelines indicated for your surface, determine the
type of adhesive that will be used.
Prepare
Surface (if necessary)
If your surface requires preparation, follow the instructions
as indicated in this brochure and any further pre- application
instructions that may appear on the container of your selected
adhesive.
Apply
as Directed
Apply the fabric, noting the application information on the inside
of this brochure and on the adhesive container.

2.
Special Application Notes
Fabrics in The Melded Collection
do not need to be cut at 90¢X corners. Its soft properties allow
it to be adhered, even to outside 90¢X corners without lifting.
The fabric will tend to relax and become even more pliable if
the fabric face is moistened by a very light spray of water, or
by the use of a water based adhesive.
After three panels are smoothed to the surface, examine the installed
panels for color uniformity.
Any objectionable variations in color must be immediately communicated
to your sales representative for inspection before proceeding
further with the installation.

3. Installation on Porous Surfaces
Unfinished Wood, Plywood, Luan
Adhesives that may be used on this surface
Mineral Based Contact Adhesive
Water Based Contact Adhesive
White Glues
Carpet Cement
Rubber Based Hot Melt Adhesive
Preparation
Surface should first be sealed.
Adhesives may be used as a sealer...let dry for 24 hours.
For maximum adhesion, apply adequate sealer to fill the "valleys"
of the surface.
Application Information
ADHESIVES SHOULD ONLY BE APPLIED TO
THE SURFACE, NEVER TO THE FABRIC.
This is a directional fabric. Hang each
strip in the same direction to avoid color differences caused
by pile directional changes.
If using a roller, apply a light coat of adhesive to the surface
to avoid bleed through to the face of the fabric. Adhesive may
also be brushed or sprayed onto the surface.
White glues with a high viscosity (liquidity) should be allowed
set-up time before applying fabric to avoid bleed through. You
may want to use tacks to hold fabric in place. Allow applied fabric
24 hours to cure.
Installation Alerts or Other Miscellaneous Information
Hot melt adhesives set-up quickly, usually
used in production line set-up.
Mineral based adhesives are not recommended for unventilated areas
in offices, museums, showrooms, etc.
Remove excess adhesive immediately after each seam is completed
using a water dampened sponge, if applicable.

Installation Alerts or Other Miscellaneous Information

Surface preparation will help in the later removal of the fabric.
When removing, if a water based adhesive was used, soaking or
steaming will help loosen the adhesive.
Mineral based adhesives are not recommended for unventilated areas
in offices, museums, showrooms, etc.
Remove excess adhesive immediately after each seam is completed
using a water dampened sponge, if applicable.

Care and Maintenance Information
General Maintenance
When removing spills, always work from the outside of the stain
to avoid spreading.
Cleaning Treatments
Mop up excess liquids as soon as possible with a clean sponge
or cloth.
Remove surplus solids with a knife edge or other appropriate instrument.
Sponge with a carpet shampoo working from well outside the stain
in a circular motion. Sponge afterwards with warm water and mop
up moisture with a clean, dry cloth. Allow to dry and brush gently.
If any stain remains, sponge with a diluted 1 to 6 solution of
household bleach and water. Thoroughly rinse immediately after
treatment.
Lightly sponge with a household dry cleaning fluid and blot. Use
sparingly as the dry cleaning fluid may have an adverse effect
on the adhesive that was used to affix the fabric to the surface.
Sponge with methylated spirits and blot dry.
Lubricate the stain with petroleum jelly or glycerine.
Sponge with turpentine (or substitute).
Freeze with ice cube and scrape away while cold.
